We're in love with our little Bella..she can never have too many kisses as far as I'm concerned :)
The last couple of days have been such an unexplainable joy of a whirlwind that I apologize to all of you for taking so long to update our blog with the beautiful details of the birth of our little girl Isabella Hope Channel.
So, here's what happened...
As you all read on my last update we received the news that we were being induced on Wednesday and there were so many things we had left to do that in true Type A form I woke up Tuesday morning on a mission..."To Do" lists in hand...all three...a realization that it was my last day at work and I needed to tie up all loose ends there...and then get home, clean and finish the rest of the stuff I had left to do in the nursery. Oh yeah...and even get my last night of uninterrupted sleep!!
I headed to work feeling as if it was my last day before Summer vacation with plans to be out of there by noon to run errands. I did accomplish my last day of work, gave hugs to my coworkers, and even ran some errands and wolfed down some lunch. As I jetted home I was feeling great...so excited about the next day I could just burst!
I pulled the Hummer into the driveway and gathered all of my odds and ends from the front seat and hoisted my round self out of the front seat. As I did so....my lower abdomen let out the strangest "glug glug gla glug" sound. I stopped and thought, 'What the heck was that?..maybe baby didn't like the BBQ sauce I just had" I proceeded out of the car, walked about ten steps into my garage and "Whoooosh" The floodgates opened and my water broke!! I looked down and wondered if I just peed my pants and then realized my pants were soaked to my knees! I stood there in the middle of my garage, hands full, and wondered what in the world I was supposed to do now!!! Do I walk? Do I sit down? Where's my cell? Oh God where is Matt?!!! Then panic set in...fast!!
I made it inside the house...almost setting off the alarm because I couldn't remember my code and fished my cell phone out to call the hub. Matt was sooooo cute when I called him. He became "Wonder Matt" in two seconds...calming me down and refusing to get off of the phone with me until he was home. He just kept telling me I need to hear you until I get there. He was so worried and was home within minutes....I don't even WANT to know how fast he drove home. Thankfully we had the bags packed and all I had to do was change and get my toothbrush....and then we were headed out the door! It's all a little bit surreal, the entire drive to the hospital, and even walking into the labor & delivery floor to announce..."We're Here To Have A Baby!!!!!" Matt was amazing during the entire process and I am so thankful to have a husband who was right there with me from day one....and even when those contractions got going!!
My water broke at 12:25 pm. We checked in at 2:00. And by 3:00pm I was hooked up to the monitors and in our own delivery room. My Mom and Matt's Mom arrived around 3:00pm and they informed me that they would be starting my Potocin to get contractions started around 4:30pm. The minute a drop of Potocin went into the IV, my contractions began..it was instant!! And it was unexpected!! Holy moly..so that's what contractions feel like??!! Yikes!! I started at a 3 dilation when I checked in and progressed very quickly. The nursing staff was a bit amazed and even became a bit frantic when they checked me and I was almost a 6 and I hadn't had an epidural yet. And it just so happened that my anesthesiologist was stuck in a crash c-section!! So, they called in a anesthesiologist from home, Dr. Robison, and he rushed to the hospital to administer my epidural around 7:00pm.
I was a happy camper at that point! Prior to my epidural, my mother-in-law said that she thought Linda Blair from the Exorcist was in the room :) I had an amazing nurse who got me through the last bit of labor as well as coaching me in pushing the baby to rotate since she was facing up and they must be facing down to deliver. Matthew, my Mom and Matt's Mom were so amazing and were the best support I could have had during Isabella's birth. Matt stood next to me and constantly gave me the willpower to get through the entire process....or as he calls it, the adventure :)
When Dr. Spoon arrived Isabella was ready to deliver and at 11:08pm our little girl entered our lives. The moment was one that I could never explain, and when you see this tiny little girl on your chest for the first time, your heart melts forever. Matt and the nurses cleaned her up and weighed her, a full 7 lbs 9 oz and 19 inches long! When Matt handed her back to me, my emotions were overwhelming. I could not stop crying tears of happiness and joy.
She was and is perfect and each day that we spend with her she shows us little bits of her personality and we fall in love with her over and over. She's such a good baby, doesn't cry and is sleeping pretty well. We'll eventually get on a schedule and figure all of that out, but for now all Matt and I want to do is stare at her. If we dim the lights she stares back at us as if she is trying to figure us out. But she does know our voices and even smiles at Matt when they have "Daddy-Bella" time at night.
We couldn't thank you all enough for all of the sweet words of encouragement and gifts you all spoiled us with throughout the last week. We can't wait for you to all meet her, she is so precious and we know you'll fall in love with her the minute you see her sweet face.
Love to you all...
XOXO Sunnie & Matt
